The Ethilon suture with needle is a nonabsorbable suture, meaning it is not broken down and absorbed by the body. It is a sterile, black nylon monofilament in size 3-0 with one stainless steel reverse cutting needle attached. It is made by J & J Healthcare Systems.
- Nonabsorbable monofilament suture made from a long polymer chain
- Dyed black or green to make it easier to see in tissue
- Tissue shows a minimal acute inflammatory response
- Encapsulation and degradation are extremely slow, taking 1 to 2 years
- Nylon material, uncoated, monofilament type
- Size 3-0, 18 inch suture
