The Smith & Nephew AlgiSite M alginate dressing is a sterile calcium alginate dressing, a soft fiber pad that absorbs wound fluid (exudate). It comes as a 3/4 x 12 inch rectangle. Facility buyers and home caregivers can confirm size, material and sterility below.
- Absorbs 13 times its own weight in exudate
- Can stay in the wound for up to 7 days, depending on the nature of the wound and the volume of exudate
- In a moderate to highly exuding wound, the dressing forms a soft gel that does not adhere to the tissues in the wound bed, so it is easy to remove
- Very soft and conformable: mold it, fold it or cut it to fit a wide range of wound shapes and sizes
- As the fibers gel, the dressing makes and keeps an even closer contact with the wound
- Advanced bonding technique greatly reduces the fibers shed when the dressing is handled, a trait that fiber-based alginates commonly share
