The Smith & Nephew AlgiSite M is a calcium alginate dressing, a soft, fiber-based wound dressing that gels as it takes in fluid. It comes as a sterile 6 x 8 inch white rectangle. It is used on moderate to highly exuding wounds.
- Easy to remove: in a moderate to highly exuding wound, the dressing forms a soft gel that does not adhere to the delicate tissue in the wound bed
- Conforms to wound contours: very soft and conformable, so you can mold, fold or cut it to fit a wide range of wound shapes and sizes
- As the fibers gel, the dressing makes even closer contact with the wound and keeps that contact
- Less fiber shed: all fiber-based alginates release fibers when handled, and the advanced bonding technique in AlgiSite M greatly reduces this
- Absorbs 13 times its own weight in exudate, so the dressing can stay in the wound for up to 7 days, depending on the nature of the wound and the volume of exudate
