The AlgiSite M alginate dressing is a soft, fiber-based wound dressing made from calcium alginate. It is a sterile 4 x 4 inch square, made by Smith & Nephew. You can mold, fold or cut it to match the shape and size of the wound.
- Easy to remove: in a moderate to highly exuding wound, the dressing forms a soft gel that does not adhere to the delicate tissues in the wound bed
- Conforms to wound contours: very soft and conformable, so it can be molded, folded or cut for a wide range of wound shapes and sizes
- As the fibers gel, the dressing makes and keeps an even more intimate contact with the wound
- Less fiber shed: all fiber-based alginates release fibers when handled, and the advanced bonding technique in AlgiSite M greatly reduces this
- Absorbs 13 times its own weight in exudate, so the dressing can stay in the wound for up to 7 days, depending on the nature of the wound and the volume of exudate
