The McKesson Calcium Alginate Dressing is an alginate dressing, a wound dressing made from calcium alginate. It is a sterile, white rectangle that measures 4 x 4-3/4 inches. It needs a secondary dressing to hold it in place.
- Gelling profile is designed so the dressing does not stick to the wound bed and keeps its physical integrity, so it can be removed from the wound in one piece
- Highly absorptive and nonocclusive
- Can be used to fill or pack the dead space in a wound
- Absorbs moderate to heavy amounts of wound exudate, the fluid a wound produces
- Can be trimmed to fit the dimensions of the wound
- Needs a secondary dressing to hold the alginate in place and to protect the wound from outside contaminants
