The Ethilon suture with needle is a nonabsorbable monofilament suture, made from a long polymer chain of polyamide. It is sterile and double-armed, with a stainless steel 1/4 circle spatula needle at each end. It is made by J & J Healthcare Systems.

- Dyed black or green to make the suture easier to see in tissue
- Minimal acute inflammatory response from tissue
- Extremely slow encapsulation and degradation (1 to 2 years)
