The Ethilon suture with needle is a nonabsorbable suture, meaning it is not broken down and absorbed by the body. It is a black nylon monofilament with a stainless steel 1/4 circle spatula needle on each end. It is supplied sterile and uncoated.
- Nonabsorbable monofilament suture made from a long polymer chain
- Dyed black or green to enhance visibility in tissue; this suture is black
- Designed to cause a minimal acute inflammatory response from tissue
- Extremely slow encapsulation and degradation (1 to 2 years)
- Nylon suture material, size 8-0, monofilament, 12-strand
