The Ethilon suture with needle is a nonabsorbable suture, meaning it is not designed to be absorbed by the body. It is a monofilament, a single smooth strand, made of polyamide and supplied sterile. It comes attached to a stainless steel ophthalmic spatula needle.
- Nonabsorbable monofilament suture made from a long polymer chain
- Dyed black or green to enhance visibility in tissue
- Minimal acute inflammatory response from tissue
- Extremely slow encapsulation and degradation, over 1 to 2 years
