The Ethilon suture with needle is a nonabsorbable suture, meaning it is not broken down and absorbed by the body. It is a nylon monofilament, a single smooth strand, paired with a 13 mm stainless steel P-3 needle. It is made by J & J Healthcare Systems.
- Nonabsorbable monofilament suture made from a long polymer chain
- Dyed black or green so it is easier to see in tissue
- Tissue shows a minimal acute inflammatory response
- Very slow encapsulation and degradation, over 1 to 2 years
