The Ethilon suture with needle is a nonabsorbable suture, meaning it is not absorbed by the body. It is a sterile nylon monofilament, a single smooth strand, supplied with one attached needle. It is made by J & J Healthcare Systems for clinical wound closure settings.
- Nonabsorbable monofilament suture made from a long polymer chain
- Dyed black or green to make the suture easier to see in tissue
- Tissue shows a minimal acute inflammatory response
- Very slow encapsulation and degradation, over 1 to 2 years
