The Kendall alginate dressing is a sterile, white, square dressing made of calcium alginate. It measures 4 x 4 inches. It takes in fluid from the wound, called exudate, and forms a gel over the wound surface.
- Absorbs exudate from the wound and forms a protective, cushioning gel that creates a moist wound environment
- The gel binds exudate and is made to help guard the surrounding skin against maceration, which is skin softening from too much moisture
- Can be used on infected wounds
- Absorbs approximately 20 times the dressing's weight
- The dressing's composition and weaving pattern are designed for simple, one-piece removal
