The BD SmartSite needle free valve is a needleless connector, a valve that lets you access an IV line without a needle. It is a negative displacement type made for IV therapy administration. The design is passive, so it works without caps or cannulas.

- Straight-through, nontortuous fluid path, described by the manufacturer as reducing the risk of hemolysis
