The BD Vacutainer venous blood collection tube is a sterile plastic serum tube for collecting venous blood samples. It holds 3 mL and measures 13 x 75 mm. The red conventional closure and recessed stopper are built to keep lab personnel away from blood contact.

Red conventional closure is designed to help protect lab personnel from contact with blood on the stopper or around the outer rim of the tube
The closure also helps guard against blood splatter when the tube is opened
The rubber stopper sits recessed inside the plastic shield, so any drops left by a blood collection needle stay isolated from potential contact
