Phenex-2 from Abbott Nutrition is an amino acid-modified medical food for PKU, supplied as a vanilla-flavored powder in a 14.1 oz. can. It is an oral supplement made for users from pediatric to adult, ages 1 year and up. It is phenylalanine-free, which allows greater intake of intact protein.
- Phenylalanine-free, to allow greater intake of intact protein
- Contains L-tyrosine, an essential amino acid that is often deficient in patients with PKU
- Contains L-carnitine (40 mg/100 grams) and taurine (125 mg/100 grams), to help supply amounts normally found in foods of animal origin
- Approximately 30% of energy comes from fat, to help supply essential fatty acids
